探究 - How we use Tankyuu at CA

Every Wednesday, school dismissal is one hour earlier than other days. What happens after children are dismissed?

Teachers and staff take part in a wide range of activities, including team and grade level meetings, preparing for conferences, report card writing and proofing, as well as the occasional staff meeting. Additionally, staff members are engaged in 探究 (Tankyuu or Inquiry), a unique-to-CA type of professional development.

Tankyuu is research and evidence based inquiry that supports student learning. All teachers identify a specific question or inquiry that they would like to explore as a team. These inquiries include using data to inform instruction and differentiation, developing practices to support diverse learners, ensuring all learners have equal access to the curriculum and opportunity to demonstrate success, and exploring the cultural forces at play in our classrooms and school.

Tankyuu inquiry is based on research, embedded in practice, and focused on student learning. As the year progresses, teachers will observe each other's practice, discuss shared readings, as well as work collaboratively through teams, all with the goal of improving student learning.

Wednesday professional development is focused on student learning, supported, and evidence based- truly time well spent.
