Aogiri Project

Aogiri Project

Our Grade 9 is currently creating its Pikadon (Pika being the flash, and don being the bang of an atomic bomb) peace exhibition, an interdisciplinary unit between English and Humanities. Our students have studied nuclear weapons, specifically, the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The students will be demonstrating their personal understanding and perspective through a variety of ways over the next few weeks. For example, a group of students planted an aogiri tree which grew from a seed of a tree that survived the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. This seed was given to them by the city of Hiroshima. This seedling was planted in front of the cafeteria on March 11, with plans to have a ceremony after the spring break.
