Course Selection Session for Grade 10 students and families

Course Selection Session for Grade 10 students and families

This week, Ms. DeVore, our Head of Counseling, and Ms. Hewett, our IBDP Coordinator, hosted a Course Selection Session for our G10 students and their families.

This is an exciting time in the academic journey for our Grade 10 students, as they move on from MYP to DP next fall. For them to start planning for the last two years of high school, the session was aimed to provide an overview of options for Grades 11 and 12. They also had the opportunity to speak with the Heads of Departments so that they could have a better understanding of each course.

During the presentation, Ms. DeVore and Ms. Hewett went over key elements of the Diploma Programme, and then introduced three different pathways that CA offers. Please refer to this page on our website for details of the pathways. Ms. DeVore advised the students to make sure that their course choice aligns with their strengths, interests, as well as requirements specific to some countries and universities.

After the presentation in the main theater, the students and their families spoke with teachers from each department in the Atrium. To provide an insight to the learning that happens in each of the courses, the teachers prepared their booths with actual teaching materials. Every booth immediately got busy with eager students asking questions. It was exciting to see them being proactive and independent in making the important decision.

At Canadian Academy, our counseling team organizes different types of sessions to ensure that the students and their families can prepare for their future aspirations according to each grade level. Our counselors also work closely with individual students to support them in identifying their future options and completing actual application processes. Please reach out to our counselors if you have any questions or concerns regarding our counseling program!
