PYPX 2024 - a fantastic opportunity to showcase achievements and growth

Last week, our Grade 5 students confidently took the stage and presented their findings at the PYP Exhibition. The exhibition is the culmination of their learning in the final year of PYP. Over the past several months, they skillfully approached the topic of their choice from various angles. Faculty and staff were paired with a student, mentoring the children as they explored their topics.

A wide variety of topics

The audience was privileged to enjoy listening to the presentations covering various topics. Here are just a few that our Grade 5 students explored:

Gender equality in sports

Poverty and education

Keystone species and urbanization

Space junk and waste

Plastic waste and pollution

Sustainable fashion

Music and mental health

Animal extinction

Video game addiction

Skills our students developed through PYPX

This Exhibition was an excellent opportunity for the students not only to deepen their knowledge about their topic but also to develop other meaningful skills that would be helpful for their future.

One of the most significant parts of their learning through the project was taking action to make a difference in the community. The student who studied sustainable fashion organized an exceptional fashion show during the assembly. In the show, she emphasized the importance of choosing clothes made of sustainable materials in a sustainable working environment for factory workers.

Another student, who explored plastic waste and pollution, put garbage containers around the school building to collect plastic packaging. This way, he made people aware of how much plastic they used every day and told them that reducing the amount of plastic we use was essential to prevent pollution.

What IB learner profile did they develop? How has the Exhibition helped them to become a better learner?

Reflecting on their learning process was another important element of their project. When asked about the learner profile that they developed through the project, a student said 'being a thinker.' This is because she had to make connections among different pieces of information and put them together throughout the project.

Other students mentioned research skills when asked how the project helped them develop as learners. As you can imagine, the project required a lot of research, from the definition of specific terms to actions that we could take to help solve the issue. They completed the long research process and proudly shared the findings with the community.

The Grade 5's PYP Exhibition was a big success, showing how much the students learned and grew. We are proud that they thoroughly explored their chosen topic and gained important skills. Congratulations on the amazing Exhibition, Grade 5 students!
