Thai Village Children's Fund

For nearly 20 years, Canadian Academy has led a fundraising mission to donate to impoverished middle and high school students in rural Thailand. By fundraising money through bake sales, raffles, and other student-led activities, we have been able to give students in Thailand the opportunity to pursue their hope to continue their education.

For the past several years, grade 8 students have accompanied CA teachers to rural areas of Thailand to personally deliver donations. Our CA students participated in ceremonies by giving speeches as well as interacting socially with the recipients. The experience they gained has given them a life-changing perspective on what it means to be privileged.

The Thai Village Children’s Fund was founded by Ms. Jeannie Vogt; a Thai national who lived in Kobe while her husband was a chef at a major hotel in Osaka. Jeannie initially raised money among her friends before contacting local international schools about participating in the program. CA soon became the main benefactor and have we supported over 400 students yearly in pursuing their dream.

It is with great sadness that I must announce that Ms. Vogt has decided she can no longer continue the program in its current state. Due to a combination of health issues and the ongoing Covid-19 situation she has had to retire from her labor of love. She leaves behind an incomparable legacy in Thailand of helping  1000s of students to go to school and have the chance to escape poverty. She was an important influence on several CA students who were fortunate to accompany her on our trips to Thailand.

This year we want to continue our support of education for underprivileged students in southeast Asia and will be supporting Hope Japan. Hope Japan is a non-profit organization out of Nagoya that has several connections to the CA community and other international schools in Japan. It is our hope for us to develop a similar “Thai Kids” style relationship with them as we work together to give access to education to those in need.

Please support our first major fund-raising event on January 27th as we hold our annual walkathon. Students in grades 6-10 will be participating by seeking pledges to walk laps here on the CA grounds. Please consider sponsoring your child or family friends as we look to continue an important tradition of giving back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
