University Application and Future Planning session

University Application and Future Planning session

Becoming a senior does not mean counting down the days until graduation - it means they have to not only multi-task studying and participating in athletics and activities, but also planning for what comes after CA and their future. It can be a very stressful time for our seniors, and at CA, we support them along their journey.

This week, we held a University Applications and Future Planning session for our G12 students and their families. Our college counselor, Ms. DeVore, shared a lot of practical information, from application deadlines to tips for well-being, and answered questions from the students and their families.

This summer, we have expanded our college counseling team so that each counselor can focus even better on the grade levels they work with. Ms. DeVore will work with G12 and 10, and Ms. Goto, our new counselor, will work with G11 and 9.

For those who have missed the session this week or those who would like to learn about university application processes for the future, here are some takeaways from Ms. DeVore’s talk.

  • A university application process should be led by students, not by their parents or counselors, while CA’s experienced counselors are here to support the students throughout the application process.

  • To find the right fit school for you, look at the schools from multiple perspectives and have an open conversation with your family: What are your scores and qualifications? What is the quality of academic programs? What about the learning environment and facilities? Are the location and weather conditions something that you would be happy with? And last but not least: how much does it cost?

  • The university application process in each country and region is quite different and may change every year. Make sure you carefully check the up-to-date information.

  • It is essential to keep a good balance between academic work and extracurricular activities, including sports. It helps you to practice time management skills. More importantly, these activities promote physical and mental well-being and help you stay connected with the community.

There are a lot more sessions and individual meetings planned throughout the year. Ms. DeVore will work closely with our G12 students so that they can move forward on their career paths, including but not limited to enrolling in universities. If you have any questions or concerns regarding university applications, please do not hesitate to reach out to our college counseling team!
