Week Without Walls is our exciting annual four-day outdoor learning program. It's a fantastic opportunity for our secondary students to explore different areas of Japan and build stronger connections with each other. Week Without Walls 2024 took place last week, and the students returned with a deeper sense of community and memories to last a lifetime!
Travel Destinations Across Japan:
Grade 6: Anan, Tokushima
Grade 7: Lake Biwako, Shiga
Grade 8: Kumano Kodo, Southern Mie
Grade 9: UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kumano Nachi Taisha and waterfall, Wakayama
Grade 10: Shimanami Kaido, Seto Inland Sea between Hiroshima and Ehime
Grade 11 (Hiking): Nakasendo, from Nagoya to Gifu
Grade 11 (Kayaking): Kitagawa and Kumanogawa River, Mie
Grade 11 (Rafting): Naganogawa River, Gifu
In each location, the students enjoyed a variety of activities, including water sports, cycling, hiking, and magatama (glass bead pendant) making. Meal planning and cooking were also part of the program for many grade levels. This helped them develop their cooking and teamwork skills, providing a fun experience of cooking and eating together. Some groups even had the chance to sleep in tents. The students loved spending quality time with their peers while participating in these activities.
As we approach the end of the school year, many students would say that Week Without Walls was absolutely one of the highlights of the year. We are proud that our outdoor learning program has given our students so many opportunities - to bond with their peers, develop their independence and collaboration skills, and explore the beautiful Japanese wilderness.
