Students at Canadian Academy are provided a rich experience in both visual and performing arts through their participation in the subject areas of Art, Drama and Music.

All students will take the Arts as part of their daily classes and there are many opportunities for students to be involved outside of the classroom. 

Canadian Academy is also involved in international arts organizations including ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association), AMIS (Association of Music in International Schools) and APAC. This allows CA students to be involved in workshops and festivals with other international schools around Asia.

 

Programs Offered

High School Art

Students study how artists compose artworks using the formal Elements and Principles of Art and undertake a series of guided projects that teach composition and analysis along with the further use of formal arts language.

They move into acrylic paints and sophisticated methods of transferring images and developing ideas. They will complete a formal oil painting, study a number of artists and be able to analyze artwork to a Diploma Programme level.

 

Middle School Art

Students will learn about the elements of design that are essential to art by creating a variety of artwork that is focused on each element, Line, Colour, Shape, Texture, Form, Value, and Space.

Students create artwork based on their passions while using themes, materials, strategies of their choices. They investigate artists, materials, styles, history, etc. to gain knowledge and record research content in their sketchbook journal while using visual effects. They include planning, processes of making, and reflection, which are to be shared in a presentation at the end of the unit.

Elementary School Art

Our youngest Falcons learn about how to explore line, color, shape, texture, form, value, and space through a variety of artwork.

High School Drama

The High School Theatre course allows students to dive deeper into their understanding of theater theorists, devising and the process of analyzing and production. The course begins with an opportunity for the students to produce a scripted play. They will analyze the genre of the script and collaborate.

Middle School Drama

Collaborating with their peers to create, perform and understand beginning theatrical skills

During the course students will have an introduction to Drama. They will collaborate with their peers to create, perform and understand beginning theatrical skills.

High School Music Program

Increasing musicianship, exploring a variety of musical genres. Concert band will perform music of various styles and levels of difficulty. Styles included range from Jazz to Rock, Modern to Renaissance, movie music to musicals. While basic musicianship is a prerequisite, other aspects of music and instrumental technique will be studied.

High School Music Program consists of Concert Band, Orchestra and Choir. 

Middle School  Music Program

Using ideas specific to wind and percussion instruments such as breath control, tuning, and tone 

In band, ideas specific to wind and percussion instruments such as breath control, tuning, and tone will be used to deepen the students' understanding of music in daily life. The role of music will be discussed in ways that show the history, traditions, and values of music-making.

Middle School Music Program consists of Concert Band, Orchestra and Choir.

Elementary School Music

Our youngest Falcons learn to use different instruments and read new notes collaborating with their peers on stage for their final performance in the Spring.
