Quick Guide for New Families

Welcome (and welcome back!) to Canadian Academy! Below you'll find information to help you start the 2020-2021 school year well prepared. Most of the information linked below is not password protected, however some of the information is located behind the Parent Portal. To access the Parent Portal, your user name and password are required. For new families, these will be emailed to you before the start of school in August. Information particularly relevant to new families is included below.

We look forward to our campus being open in August. However, due to the precautions we will be taking to keep our students and community healthy and safe, the information below may be revised as needed.

Step One: Before You Arrive

The following is a brief checklist of items that might be easier to complete over the summer months in order for your family to be ready to join Canadian Academy in August:

  • Class Supply Lists
To help you prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, we have created a supply list for the elementary school, middle school, and high school.
  • Health Requirements
Please make sure your child has completed all of our health requirements as your child won't be able to begin school until the requirements have been met. All new students entering CA are required to have all immunizations up to date according to their age, as well as a recent physical and TB test. Copies of all vaccines received must be submitted to the health office for verification. Please see here for the vaccine requirements for CA.

Step Two: Welcome to Kobe! Before School Starts...

We hope that your family is settled and starting to get used to your new home! Now that you're here, the following should be considered before the first day of school:

Step 3: Making a home

By now, you've discovered that the Kobe area is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. As you establish your routine, you are ready to become more involved in CA:

  • New Family Welcome (virtual)
Canadian Academy has an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that organizes events, runs a Booster Club, and funds special projects and lasting gifts. Learn more about the PTA here. All new parents are invited to the PTA New Family Welcome on the morning of Friday, August 21st. This orientation will include information regarding the after school activities we offer, navigating the school website, accessing information about your child's learning, and the importance of our Parent Teacher Association. We look forward to sharing all that we do with you!
  • Back to School Night (virtual)
Experience your child's day with our Back to School Night. Parents are invited to school to meet the teachers of their children while learning about the classes and their expectations.
    • Secondary School (Grades 6-12) Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 2nd
    • Elementary School (PreK-3-Grade 5) Back to School Night is Thursday, September 3rd
  • Typhoon/Earthquake Emergency Closure Procedures
Although we hope that CA does not experience emergencies, it is important that the school, faculty, parents and students are informed and prepared. CA generally follows the actions of Kobe City officials in deciding whether to cancel school. As soon as the decision has been made to cancel school, a notice will be placed on the school's homepage under the News Headlines. We make every attempt to post the message before 6:00 am. Please make sure that the school has the best and correct email address for the family as important messages may also be sent directly to your email as well as posted on the homepage.
  • Covid-19 Reopening Plan
We are looking forward to August 20, 2020, when we can all gather together again on our campus! Moving forward, our priority will continue to be the health and safety of our children, faculty and staff, and community. With that in mind, we'd like to share with your our Falcons Reunite: Canadian Academy's Reopening Plan August 2020 that outlines what our open campus will look like, some of the precautions we will be taking, as well as other options that are designed to support the health, well-being, and learning of our students.
